LSBAC Receives Software Grant from The Greater Lowell Community Foundation

6/15/04 - The Greater Lowell Community Foundation has awarded the Center a
grant to purchase a multi-user license for Quickbooks Pro, a leading small business accounting package.  This grant will provide Center Clients with access to state-of-the art accounting software, and the training they need to fully realize its potential in their businesses.

"In addition to helping start businesses we spend considerable time helping existing businesses in crisis.  One of the things these businesses often  share is  the absence of an accurate accounting system.  The lack of a system contributes to the creation of the problem and complicates the analysis and development of an effective solution", said Russ Smith, Executive Director of the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center.

The Center, founded in December of 1998 is a partnership of Community Teamwork, Inc., the Lowell Division of Planning and development, and Middlesex Community College. Its mission is to provide entrepreneurs from ethnically and economically diverse groups with the education, tools, and resources necessary to create sustain and expand small businesses. Last year the Center started 49 small businesses, created 108 new jobs, and generated $11.3M in client sales.
